Sometimes people seem to forget that Ice-Cube was an incredibly gangsta dude. When he first split from N.W.A, some wondered how he would fair as a solo artist. He showed everyone when he dropped Amerikkkas Most Wanted, which saw Cube take his craetivity to new heights. Over the next 2 years, he dropped consistently solid albums, keeping as “real” as one could on record. From there he made Friday (which we loved) and then continued his foray into the movie scene. Was is the voice? The flow? Whatever it was, when NINE dropped his classic album, “Nine Livez”, lead off with teh single “Wutcha Want”, me and my whole crew took notice. The man was sick…period! Unfortunately, like most underated greats, he never quite found mainstream success. He released a second album (which is REDICULOUS…if your lucky enough to find a copy) which slipped under the radar. Lost Boyz were dope as hell in the 90’s. The South Jamaica Queens group, consisting of Mr. Cheeks, Freaky Tah, Spigg Nice and Pretty Lou had a string of hits that propelled them into the spotlight. Unfortunately Freaky Tah was shot and killed in 1999. The crew tried to move on, but could not find the same chemistry that once existed. Spigg Nice was later booked for a string of bank robberies in NJ, and was sentenced to 37 years in jail. Mr. Cheeks found some success as a solo artist.
