New Jersey and Australia collide for an international mix CD titled “Flight 973 to Sydney” that features Australia’s #1 Urban DJ – DJ Nino Brown – and Jersey Sound Lab Recordings leading artist Internal Quest. Flight 973 to Sydney features some of Hip-Hop’s elite El Da Sensei and 5FT of Blackmoon among Jersey Sound Lab affiliates Special, Bodat Ink, Bless McFly and Australia’s MC Rafa.

Emcee, producer and engineer, Internal Quest takes a journey with his lead single “I Kept Going” that reveals his tenacity and paying the price of fame while on the come up in Brick City – Newark, New Jersey. The versatility of Internal Quest is what makes him a much-needed force in the Hip-Hop industry.

“It’s been a refreshing experience working with a triple threat like Internal Quest,” reveals DJ Nino Brown. “He’s incredible on the beats, as an MC and also as an engineer.”

Flight 973 to Sydney keeps you “Flying High” throughout the 18-track mix CD with head knocking beats from Jersey Sound Lab Recording artists Internal Quest and Future aka Craft along with JSL affiliates JL, Chasm and LP. “UShudaknown” will have you pressing repeat with the hip-hop enthused drums and catchy hook. Flight 973 to Sydney is diverse with Australian rapper MC Rafa spitting on “Where We At” putting Sydney on the US radar.

“Make A Scene” will have true school hip-hop lovers on the edge of their seats with El Da Sensei and 5FT of Blackmoon igniting the track with quotable lyrics with a crowd-pleasing beat. With the right touches from El Da Sensei and MC Rafa, “Play the Horn” will be one of many favorites off of Flight 973 to Sydney. Internal Quest doesn’t leave the ladies out the loop, “One Night Affair” and “Grindin for Us” slows it down and shows appreciation to the ladies and the one night stands.

DJ Nino Brown puts the final touch of dopeness to Flight 973 to Sydney with drops from DJ Evil Dee, Bumpy Knuckles, El Da Sensei, Sadat X of Brand Nubian and many more. Club track “Waiting For the Beat to Drop” will have music fans all over the world wanting more with features from JSL affiliate Mars Hoffa.

Internal Quest swapped rhymes with JSL label mate Special to create rap duo 4th Quarter on “The Dream” which is a sneak peek to their upcoming album Engineered 2 Win (E2W) that drops late 2010.

Flight 973 to Sydney is a one-way ride to dope lyrics; production that transcends hip-hop that includes soulful interludes, R&B inspired songs while paying homage to the boom-bap the Hip-Hop game has been missing. This is just the beginning for Internal Quest his solo debut album on Jersey Sound Lab Recordings titled Monumental will be out later this summer. Catch DJ Nino Brown at www. Pioneering Hip-Hop DJ & Juice Crew Founder Mr. Magic Dies

By admin • Oct 2nd, 2009

One of hip-hop’s true pioneers, John “Mr. Magic” Rivas, died this morning (October 2) of a heart attack.

Along with hosting “Rap Attack” with Marley Marl on New York radio station WBLS, Mr. Magic was a co-founder of the legendary Juice Crew, the ’80s group featuring Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Biz Markle and Masta Ace, among other hip-hop trailblazers.

“Rap Attack” began its influential run in 1983 and is often considered the first all-hip-hop radio show ever. For many, Mr. Magic was the man who brought rap music to the radio, as well as became a frequent reference point for East coast MCs. In Notorious B.I.G.’s “Juicy,” Biggie rapped, “Every Saturday Rap Attack/Mr. Magic, Marley Marl.”

DJ Premier remembered Mr. Magic online today, posting the following letter:

I WANT TO SEND OUT THE UTMOST RESPECT AND CONDOLENCES TO THE MEMORY OF JOHN RIVAS—-aka MR. MAGIC

HE PASSED AWAY THIS MORNING OF A HEART ATTACK…..

TRUE HIP HOP HEADS KNOW THAT HIS HISTORY IS SO LONG
DUE TO HIM BEING THE FIRST RAP MIXSHOW TO EVER BE ON COMMERCIAL RADIO ON NEW YORK’S WBLS–(107.5) WITH MARLEY MARL AND FLY TY IN 1982-1984…….THEN WENT ON TO WHBI IN OCTOBER OF 1984 AND THEN
BACK TO WBLS in 1985 and WDAS in Philly SIMULTANEOUSLY

HE PAVED THE WAY FOR ALL RADIO STATIONS THAT EVER DID MIXSHOWS AND ALSO SPARKED THE CAREER OF BOOGIE DOWN PRODUCTIONS DUE TO THE DISS HE SHOWED WHEN THEY CAME TO SHOP THEIR DEMO TO HIM AND WAS TURNED AWAY WHICH THEN SPARKED “SOUTH BRONX” AND “THE BRIDGE IS OVER”…….

HE WAS KNOWN FOR HIS DIRECT AND SARCASTIC ATTITUDE ON THE AIR AND EVERY ARTIST WANTED HIS APPROVAL WHEN IT CAME TO BREAKING NEW RECORDS……..HE EVEN HAD SONGS DEDICATED TO HIM BY THE LEGENDARY WHODINI–(”MR. MAGIC’S WAND”) WHICH WAS SURPRISINGLY PRODUCED BY ONE OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS THOMAS DOLBY…….

SHOUTS OUT TO MARLEY MARL AND FLY TY FOR THE CORRECT INFORMATION ON THIS……

REST IN PEACE MR. MAGIC………….DJ PREMIER

Anthony Williams aka DJ Roc Raida passed away unexpectedly on Sept 19, 2009. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, mother, and many friends.

Although the sad news of DJ Roc Raida’s death is true, there seems to be some confusion as to what actually killed the DJ. Some report it was a martial arts accident while others maintain it was due to injuries from a car accident.

SOHH reported:

Roc Raida was recently in an mixed martial arts accident, something the DJ had been involved in for years. Williams had two different surgeries and was released to an inpatient physical therapy center, but he began having complications and passed away.

Others reported it Roc Raida’s death was not from a martial arts accident but a car accident?

All Hip Hop reports:

About Margret

Then last summer curiosity finally caused me to venture in and I was immediately mad at myself for not going sooner (although, Margret did only open about a year and a half ago). First of all, a bartender/DJ was sitting behind the turn tables spinning everything from Roy Orbison to Tone Loc, a black and white film was playing silently on the projection screen at the back wall, and the mismatched furniture straight from your parent’s rec room was full of a solid representation of everyone that lived in the Junction – hipsters drinking tall cans of beer, grimy artists in the corner sectional, likely from the Academy of Realist Art next door, pants still covered in paint, and a table of women in their 40’s and 50’s with glasses of wine.

I’ve since moved from the Junction but thought it would be worth the trip back to see how things changed. It was nice to see that they hadn’t. The decor was still the same – one wall, bare concrete minus what looks like a few vinyl bomber jets ironed on to it. The other wall a full on shrine to ever yard sale an 80-year-old couple has ever had. Think dog portraits, lots of them, painted on canvas, on black velvet and even crocheted into blankets. They’re mixed in with a thorough assortment of pictures of Mack trucks, eagles’ heads and of course your poor man’s Group of Seven landscapes. And that’s just the start.
One of the owners, Chris Brown, a 37-year-old music producer, prides himself on his yard-saling and value-villaging techniques, and is constantly adding to the kitsch wall. The effect is surprisingly pleasing in that “it looks cool because it’s not trying too hard” sort of way.

If Brown and co-owner Jill Rooksby bought Margret with the goal to create a cool bar that had the vibe of your favourite perverted uncle who still lives at home in the basement but has a wicked vinyl collection (and I mean that in the best way possible) then they’ve succeeded.

Not to mention there are plans for a fully licensed patio, just as soon as the permit is granted, and while they don’t serve proper food per se, Brown says they will be serving things like grilled cheese, olives, and “anything under $3.” And if all that sounds like what you’re looking for in an up and coming neighbourhood bar, then Brown’s plans to take out the taps in order to make more room for more tall boys (there are already at least a half dozen to choose from) make it that much more perfect.

Michael Jackson Dies at age 50.

By admin • Jun 26th, 2009

One of the most influential figures in pop history whose four-decade career included the highest-selling album of all-time, “Thriller,” Jackson had been preparing for a concert comeback in London next month he had dubbed “the final curtain.”

News of the death triggered an outpouring of grief as shocked celebrities, foreign governments and devoted fans paid tribute to the troubled star who struggled to rebuild his career after a 2005 acquittal for child abuse.

Lieutenant Fred Corral, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, said an autopsy would likely be carried out on Friday and would not speculate on the exact cause of death.

Jackson’s brother Jermaine, the family’s official spokesman, later revealed physicians had battled for more than an hour to revive the star after his arrival at the UCLA Medical Center before he was pronounced dead.

“Our family requests that the media please respect our privacy during this tough time,” Jermaine Jackson said. “May Allah be with you, Michael, always.”

As the sun began to sink over Los Angeles, a coroner’s office helicopter bearing Jackson’s body took off from the UCLA Medical Center, where hundreds of media and fans had gathered throughout the day.

Meanwhile police motorcycle riders surrounded Jackson’s gated mansion as crowds of tourists and fans congregated.

Pop diva Madonna was among dozens of celebrities who struggled to cope. “I can’t stop crying over the sad news,” the singer said in a statement. “The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever!”

The star’s first wife Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, said his death had left her speechless.

“I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible. I am heartbroken for his children, who I know were everything to him, and for his family,” Presley told MTV News in a statement.
