KRS-ONE and The Stop The Violence Tour…Hip-Hop Meets Education.
By admin • Jun 6th, 2009KRS-ONE, and his relaunched Stop The violence Movement (they relaunched in 2007), are reaching our city this week, and we couldn’t be happier. Not just because of the fact that we are old school hip hop heads who love seeing legends on stages, but also because KRS always brings along a air of hope and positivity with him.
It isn’t just a concert in Toronto, but a 4 day event consisting of panel discussions, community out reach events and showcases. KRS has always been an advocate of education through the arts, much like Chuck D, and we here at Boom Box Radio find it inspiring. The panel, held in conjunction with L.I.F.E, the event will aim to gather the Toronto community, and open up the dialogue about the state of our city, and how we can, well to keep it simple, stop the violence. The event is similar to the very panel held by the Zulu Nation and Afrika Bambaataa that inspired KRS to form the original movement back in 1989. Hip-hop is a tool that KRS-ONE has been using for years to help spread awareness of social issues, and he has made many strides over the years, including the Temple of Hip Hop (founded in 1996). With over 20 years in the game, he is a legend who should be properly recognized and respected for his contributions.
