Boom Box Radio: When Ice-Cube Was Gangsta

By admin • Aug 14th, 2010

Sometimes people seem to forget that Ice-Cube was an incredibly gangsta dude. When he first split from N.W.A, some wondered how he would fair as a solo artist. He showed everyone when he dropped Amerikkka’s Most Wanted, which saw Cube take his creativity to new heights. Over the next 2 years, he dropped consistently solid albums, keeping as “real” as one could on record. From there he made Friday (which we loved) and then continued his foray into the movie scene (while dropping a few more solo efforts). He may make kid movies now-a-days, but we thought it fitting to take some time out and reflect on how HARD Ice-Cube used to be. Salute to the G. SUBSCRIBE

Milk Box Edition Part 1:

Was is the voice? The flow? Whatever it was, when NINE dropped his classic album, “Nine Livez”, lead off with teh single “Wutcha Want”, me and my whole crew took notice. The man was sick…period! Unfortunately, like most underated greats, he never quite found mainstream success. He released a second album (which is REDICULOUS…if your lucky enough to find a copy) which slipped under the radar. Imma say this…NINE, if your reading this…GET AT ME! SUBSCRIBE!

Boom Box Radio: Legal Drug Money

By admin • Jul 24th, 2010

Lost Boyz were dope as hell in the 90’s. The South Jamaica Queens group, consisting of Mr. Cheeks, Freaky Tah, Spigg Nice and Pretty Lou had a string of hits that propelled them into the spotlight. Unfortunately Freaky Tah was shot and killed in 1999. The crew tried to move on, but could not find the same chemistry that once existed. Spigg Nice was later booked for a string of bank robberies in NJ, and was sentenced to 37 years in jail. Mr. Cheeks found some success as a solo artist. This week we pay homage to the Lost Boyz, and bang the gems that made our heads nod back in the day. Rest in Peace Freaky Tah! SUBSCRIBE! SEASON 3!

New Jersey and Australia collide for an international mix CD titled “Flight 973 to Sydney” that features Australia’s #1 Urban DJ – DJ Nino Brown – and Jersey Sound Lab Recordings leading artist Internal Quest. Flight 973 to Sydney features some of Hip-Hop’s elite El Da Sensei and 5FT of Blackmoon among Jersey Sound Lab affiliates Special, Bodat Ink, Bless McFly and Australia’s MC Rafa.

Emcee, producer and engineer, Internal Quest takes a journey with his lead single “I Kept Going” that reveals his tenacity and paying the price of fame while on the come up in Brick City – Newark, New Jersey. The versatility of Internal Quest is what makes him a much-needed force in the Hip-Hop industry.

“It’s been a refreshing experience working with a triple threat like Internal Quest,” reveals DJ Nino Brown. “He’s incredible on the beats, as an MC and also as an engineer.”

Flight 973 to Sydney keeps you “Flying High” throughout the 18-track mix CD with head knocking beats from Jersey Sound Lab Recording artists Internal Quest and Future aka Craft along with JSL affiliates JL, Chasm and LP. “UShudaknown” will have you pressing repeat with the hip-hop enthused drums and catchy hook. Flight 973 to Sydney is diverse with Australian rapper MC Rafa spitting on “Where We At” putting Sydney on the US radar.

“Make A Scene” will have true school hip-hop lovers on the edge of their seats with El Da Sensei and 5FT of Blackmoon igniting the track with quotable lyrics with a crowd-pleasing beat. With the right touches from El Da Sensei and MC Rafa, “Play the Horn” will be one of many favorites off of Flight 973 to Sydney. Internal Quest doesn’t leave the ladies out the loop, “One Night Affair” and “Grindin for Us” slows it down and shows appreciation to the ladies and the one night stands.

DJ Nino Brown puts the final touch of dopeness to Flight 973 to Sydney with drops from DJ Evil Dee, Bumpy Knuckles, El Da Sensei, Sadat X of Brand Nubian and many more. Club track “Waiting For the Beat to Drop” will have music fans all over the world wanting more with features from JSL affiliate Mars Hoffa.

Internal Quest swapped rhymes with JSL label mate Special to create rap duo 4th Quarter on “The Dream” which is a sneak peek to their upcoming album Engineered 2 Win (E2W) that drops late 2010.

Flight 973 to Sydney is a one-way ride to dope lyrics; production that transcends hip-hop that includes soulful interludes, R&B inspired songs while paying homage to the boom-bap the Hip-Hop game has been missing. This is just the beginning for Internal Quest his solo debut album on Jersey Sound Lab Recordings titled Monumental will be out later this summer. Catch DJ Nino Brown at www.
